How to Set Up Your Trombone
Trombone taken apart in it's case.
When starting to play the trombone, the most imporant thing to learn is to how to properly set up and take apart your trombone. You don't want to make a simple mistake and have a not so good outcome. Setting up a trombone is pretty easy, heres how:
First thing that you want to do before you even get out your trombone, is to find somewhere to play. You want to find a nice spot to sit, or stand in some cases, where your trombone will not be harmed and you feel comfortable playing. Whether sitting or standing, you want to find a spot with lots of room, so that your trombone does not hit anything. Make sure that there is lots of room in front of you, because remember, your slide takes up quite a bit of room. Then from there you want to figure out where to put your music, if playing any.
Next you want to do a very important part. This next step is washing/sterilizing your mouth piece. This step doesn't seem to be extremly important, but it is. You don't want the germs from the last time you played to get you sick. This step can be easily done, all you have to do is go to a sink. Turn on the water to a nice warm temperature. Then if you are using sterilizer use about two squirts and rub it all off under the water. If you do not have sterilizer, liquid dishsoap also works well too. When using this dishsoap, you do not need very much of it. Just a little drop, rub it around, and rinse.
Your next steps are to put the instrument together. The easiest way to do it, is to take your bell section and then put on your slide. After you screw on the slide you put your mouthpiece on and you are ready to go!

Mouthpeice for a trombone.
After you are done playing your trombone its time to put it away. Putting away your trombone is just basically the same as putting it together only backwards. First step you want to do when taking your trombone apart, is to unscrew the slide that was attatched, take out he mouthpiece and put the slide back into the case. You then will put the bell section into the case as well. After these steps are completed, all you have to do is wash your mouth piece. Whether you wash it with liquid dishsoap or sterilize it, it doesnt really matter, as long as it gets cleaned. If your are unclear on how to do any of these steps see above in "How to Set Up Your Trombone".
