How to Play the Trombone
When playing a trombone for the first time, you need to figure out how to buzz with your mouth before you do anything else. In order to make a "buzz" you need to keep your lips tight. This is the tricky part, you cant have your lips too tight or too loose or you will not get a buzz sound. Once you have gotten a buzz sound, practice that for a while. You want to make sure you got that under control before you start to play the trombone.
After you are able to buzz, try it with just the mouth piece. Try this for a while and then you are ready for the instrument itself. Also, buzz with just your mouth piece to get warmed up before each time you play. It will get your mouth warmed up so that you are ready when you want to play a piece.
Once you have warmed up with your mouth and/or your mouth piece you are ready to begin! When playing the trombone all you have to do is keep that buzzing sound. You want to make sure you have your mouth properly into the mouth piece so that your sound on the trombone is correct. If your sound is coming out fuzzy, or your sound is not full, that can easily be fixed with readjusting your mouth or making your lips tighter or looser.
When playing the trombone, you have to make sure you are holding the instrument properly so that you are comfortable. To hold this instrument properly, you must put it over your left shoulder. You will put your left hand on the bell section holding it up and your right hand will be on the slide, making it go to its seven positions. Now that you have learned the basics on how to play all you have to learn are the notes. (Found on the next page.)
